Strengthening Migration Network in Asia
Contexts
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asia is again in motion. Not only through the conventional migration routes from Asia to Western countries, the migration within Asia is becoming more prevalent exhibiting the more complex nature of international migration at global level.
SDGs target 10.7, together with Global Compact on Migration clearly stipulates the importance of national and international policies to promote safe, orderly and regular migration. The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations provides a significant opportunity to improve migration governance. Rooted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, policy dialogues and discussions based on the Compact is necessary for contributing to comprehensive toolkit for States in the Asia region from which they can select policy options to address some of the most pressing issues around international migration.γWhile each country of Asia is becoming both sending and receiving countries, it is necessary to strengthen the network between countries in Asia.
