Dear All,
The Social Sciences section of The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences has issued a new call for papers for a special issue titled, Family Diversity and Dynamics Among Older Adults in the 21st Century. Please share with your colleagues.
Family relations have been one of the central underpinnings of social science research on aging and life course since the inception of the field. Rich work in this area has helped us to understand the social, economic, and health dynamics of families in areas such as caregiving/care work, intergenerational transfers, and relationships among parents, children, and siblings. In the first quarter of the 21st century, we have experienced rapid social change that has significantly influenced family structure and dynamics.
We are calling for cutting-edge research on diverse family forms in late adulthood or including among older adults. Further, we are seeking research that moves beyond describing family forms to research exploring the dynamics and mechanisms of social, economic, and healthy well-being. We encourage submissions from any cultural or societal contexts as well as qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches. Submissions focusing on contexts outside the United States and/or comparative studies are especially welcome. Selected contributions will have a strong theoretical framework as well as situate this work in the respective cultural, demographic, or political context(s).
Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan, PhD (National University of Singapore) and Stacy Torres, PhD (University of California, San Francisco) will serve as guest associate editors for this special issue. Abstracts are due February 29, 2024. Visit https://bit.ly/GSA-CFPs to review the full call. Contact the editorial office at This email address is being protected from spambots.
