Australia’s Population: Past, Present and Future
< Abstract >
Australia has the oldest continuous living culture in the world. From an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander view of creation, people have always been in Australia since the land was created, and scientific evidence shows presence of Indigenous people for at least 65,000 years. An estimated 320,000 Indigenous people lived in Australia at the time of European colonization. This presentation will examine the components of population change such as fertility and mortality rates, and migration patterns, with a focus on periods of major change during the 20th and 21st Century. The presentation will also discuss the cultural diversity of the Australian population. Overall, this presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the key features of Australia's population, with a focus on understanding the demographic trends that are shaping Australia’s future.
